Interesting Facts
Eastchester opened its first marble quarry in 1818. The marble created in the quarry was called “Tuckahoe Marble”. Buildings made out of this marble type include The General Post Office in Washington D.C., Government Printing Office in Washington, D.C., and the Main Public Library in New York City. Throughout Eastchester buildings made out of Tuckahoe Marble include the Immaculate Conception Church and the Samuel Fee building.  

In the early 1800’s the marble quarries in the Eastchester and Tuckahoe area were an important industry. 

The oldest road in the town of Eastchester is White Plains Road. 

Parks/Sports/Recreation/Golf
Lake Isle Park is settled on approximately 116 acres. The park consists of a championship 18-hole golf course, an extensive pool complex with 5 swimming pools, and 6 tennis courts. The Town’s Senior Citizen Nutrition program is also held at Lake Isle Park. 

Parkway Oval is a 14 acre park located in Tuckahoe. However, it is owned and maintained by Eastchester. In the park there is a baseball/softball field, soccer fields, full basketball court, and an all-purpose playfield. There is also a playground area that has swings, a climber, and benches for the children. The Parkway Oval has a path that runs alongside the Bronx River creating an enjoyable spot for a jog or bike ride. 

Leewood Park has 2 paddle tennis courts, volleyball courts, a basketball court, and 6 all-weather tennis courts. Leewood Park also has outdoor, a ball field, a playground for the kids, an official horseshoe court, and tennis backboard.  

Joyce Road Park is a charming place to bring the kids. For fun, there is a small playfield, climbing equipment, a sandbox, and benches. The Joyce Road Park is settled on two-thirds of an acre. 

Excellent golf courses closest to Eastchester include the Mosholu Golf Course, Dunwoodie Golf Course, Bonnie Briar Country Club, Quaker Ridge Golf Club and the Saxon Woods Golf Course.
